Nearly 100 participants registered for the 2 days long webinar, which was organized jointly with the HEPA Hungarian Export Promotion Agency, HEPA Regional Office Canada, Hungarian Embassy in Ottawa and Consulate General of Hungary in Toronto and Vancouver.

The event was created to provide an opportunity for Hungarian companies to learn about the extensive network that can help support their export activities, as well as key features and trends in the Canadian economic and political environment.

On 25th of May, the first day of the event, the participants were greeted by István Joó, Deputy State Secretary for Export Development, Mária Vass-Salazár, Ambassador of Hungary to Ottawa, Kristóf Szabó, CEO of HEPA and Sándor Balla, Managing Director of HEPA Regional Office Canada.

After the welcoming speeches, Foreign Trade Attachés, Gábor Simon, Ottawa, Máté Árpád Igaz, Toronto and Mónika Molnár, Vancouver, presented the Canadian macro environment.

Miklós Póti, Head of HOPI Hungária Logisztika Kft., discussed the shipping difficulties and opportunities that arose as a result of the current pandemic, as well as the most important information in regards to shipping to Canada.

In the second part of the first day’s schedule, experts from three major Canadian economic development organizations – Montreal International, Toronto Global and EUCCAN in Canada West – presented the business characteristics of their Canadian region along with local business and investment opportunities available to Hungarian companies.

On the second day, participants received valuable insights and hands-on experiences on the Canadian market. Maria Libaiova and Balázs Csutora, experts of the HEPA Hungarian Export Promotion Agency responsible for the Canadian relation, presented some essential points for a company to be a successful exporter. Sara Holly, head of the Enterprise Europe Network office, explained how their organization can support companies considering, or already present in, foreign markets.

Gábor Simon, Máté Árpád Igaz and Mónika Molnár FTAs and Joseph Sáfián, Director of the Food and Beverages of HEPA Regional Office Canada, presented key specifics of the Canadian healthcare, IT, food and wine sectors and discussed the Canadian business environment. Lastly, Hungarian-originated companies such as Femtonics, Nobilis, Primus and ImportRus shared their success stories and own experience of entering into the Canadian market.
