Niagara Falls Illuminated in Hungarian Tricolor
The HEPA Regional Office Canada played a key role in commemorating the 68th anniversary of the 1956 Hungarian Revolution with the iconic illumination of Niagara Falls in the colors of the Hungarian tricolor. The event featured heartfelt speeches, including opening remarks by Sandor Balla, Executive Director of the HEPA Regional Office Canada, and addresses by Consul General János Jákó and Deputy State Secretary Miklós Lengyel.
An Evening of Culture and Remembrance
The ceremony at Niagara Falls was enriched by a moving poem recital by Hunor Chase Lacroix, dynamic performances by the Kodály Folk Dance Ensemble, and a concert by the renowned band Platon Karataev. A poignant candle-lighting ceremony was held to honor the memory of Árpád János Potápi, whose legacy continues to inspire Hungarian communities around the world.

Representatives from the Hungarian community gathered at the Freedom for Hungary Monument of ’56 in Budapest Park on the shores of Lake Ontario. The event featured a ceremonial flag-raising, speeches, and a wreath-laying. Sandor Balla, along with Deputy State Secretary Miklós Lengyel, Ambassador Dr. Mária Vass-Salazar, and Consul General Dr. János Jákó, participated in raising the national flag in a show of unity and respect.

The Consulate General of Hungary in Toronto organized a ceremonial flag-raising at the Ontario provincial parliament building.
