Dr. Anita Orbán, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Hungary, joined members of Ontario’s Hungarian community for a gala dinner in Toronto marking the beginning of Ontario Hungarian Heritage Month.
During her visit to Canada, Dr. Anita Orbán met with representatives of the Hungarian diaspora and took part in an evening celebrating the community’s cultural heritage and connections with Hungary. The dinner, held at the Hungarian Canadian Cultural Centre, brought together leaders of Hungarian organizations, diplomatic representatives and community members.
Sándor Balla, Executive Director of HEPA Regional Office Canada, welcomed guests. The program featured a dance performance by the Kodály Dance Ensemble and a recital by harpist Bettina Tóth. Leaders of Hungarian organizations in Ontario also introduced their work and the communities they serve.
Among the guests were Miklós Lengyel, Hungary’s Ambassador to Canada; Péter Szabó, Deputy Head of Mission in Toronto; Helga Pritz, Consul General of Hungary in Montreal; Katalin Kapócsné Haás, Deputy Head of Mission; Gábor Markocsány, Diaspora Liaison Diplomat; Dr. Barbara Bernhardt, Consul; and Dániel Németh, Economic and Trade Attaché.
Dr. Anita Orbán’s participation made the opening celebration a special occasion for Ontario’s Hungarian community and an opportunity to recognize the people and organizations that continue to preserve and share Hungarian heritage in Canada.
